Principles of science

·   Developing subject knowledge and understanding of curriculum content

Inspire children by meeting scientists and engineers who work within STEM subjects and discuss how they are used within the workplace.

 

Enrich children’s love of science/STEM through extra-curricular activities or development opportunities through school based tasks.

Assessment in Science

This document aims to show you how we assess children’s knowledge in Science.  There are a range of skills which are developed through their time in primary school. Children will revisit the skills as they progress through the school

STEM Ambassadors

Last term, we have been very lucky and received weekly Zoom calls from various people who work in all aspects of STEM. They have been explaining their careers to the children and explaining what subjects they needed to do to work in a particular field, as well as discussing their various routes into STEM e.g. apprenticeships, university, etc. The children have been fascinated with the wide variety of careers discussed, which ranged from a neuroscientist, aeronautical engineer, sports scientist and mechanical engineer. Our STEM Ambassadors have kindly shared their photographs and they can be seen on display, along with the children’s very thoughtful questions, in our school entrance.

STEM busy bags (EYFS)

STEM Busy Bag Parent info.pdf

Last year, Mrs Eggington was one of eight winners of the Let Teacher's Shine award and was successfully awarded a grant to run a project called STEM Busy Bags. The main aim of these bags is to develop communication and language in EYFS children as well as foster a love of science and develop curiosity about the world. The children will receive one bag per half term based on a key science topic e.g. plants and keep this for 3 weeks before returning school. Parents will be able to share photos and videos of their children taking part in the activities so we can share these with the children and display in class.
